United States continues strong positive index growth based on significant growth in job posting while the UK has another slight monthly decline.

San Ramon, CA – London – February 21, 2012 – eQuest today announced its employment findings for January 2012 as published in its Employment Index.

The United States eQuest Employment Index showed continued positive movement in the recruitment space moving forward to 104.67 from 102.97. The gain of 1.7 points is the largest monthly positive move since the indexes inception. The January gain was achieved with a significant increase in overall job postings hiring across most tracked industries but the largest gains were made by the Banking and Energy Industries. The Government industry was the industry with the largest move down in the overall rankings. Applicant traffic was also up significantly over December which kept the index from moving up even larger in January. The increase in both job posting and applicant volume is a typical change for December to January.

The top three Industries in the Unites States for overall job posting volume in January were Energy, Healthcare and Biotech. Production and manufacturing-based industries continue to occupy the bottom of the Employment Index driven by a continued lack of a significant number of new positions being added to the marketplace and consistent higher applicant traffic. Geographically, all states continued to show growth but the largest growth numbers were within states already showing better hiring conditions. The states with the highest hiring demand in January were Idaho, New Mexico and Washington while Missouri, Mississippi and Alabama continued to show the lowest demand indices.

The eQuest Employment Index will also report on the spending patterns of the Fortune 500 including job posting volumes based on activity over the prior month. The index derives its findings through algorithms based on the supply and demand of open positions posted to responding candidates. A target index of 100 reflects balance in the number of applicants vying for each open position posted. The data to create the index includes thousands of monthly job posting transactions. Reporting includes analysis by industry using the governments Standard Occupational Codes (SOC) in major metros and states and over 950 job classifications.
